The Royals acquired Fernando Cortez and Joey Gathright for J.P. Howell on Tuesday, according to the official team website. Cortez, who hasn't seen any major league action this season, was hitting .222 with no home runs, seven RBI, and eight SB in 60 games for Triple-A Durham at the time of the transaction.
