However, clubs have become frustrated with St. Louis' high asking price, which is reportedly an upper-echelon prospect, plus another piece. "I think the guy is salvageable," said an executive of one interested team. "But that's got to be proven, too. So I think they don't quite understand what they have. We're talking about a guy who is [9-24], with a [5.46] ERA. So the asking price is pretty frigging high."

Reyes had a good spring, posting a 3.32 ERA and 13/3 K/BB rate over 19 innings, but he lost out on a rotation spot to Brad Thompson. The Post notes that at least 10 teams were scouting Reyes when he twirled six shutout innings Tuesday, so it's possible he could be dealt before the opener.

Anthony Reyes gave up three runs on six hits and a walk in four innings Wednesday, but he also struck out six in the outing and came away pleased with how he pitched. “I feel like every time I go out there I’m getting more confident and the strikeouts are going up a little bit,” Reyes said in the AP. “I think it’s starting to come together a little bit and the more I go out there, the sharper I’m going to get.” Reyes had a dreadful 2007 season, but he still has lots of ability and could be a good bargain late in a draft.

"[He had a] headache, sore throat. I told him to get out of here." Reyes was knocked around for four runs on six hits in two innings in his last outing after working three scoreless innings in his first appearance.

Reyes allowed two singles and didn't walk a batter in an efficient outing, something that didn't occur often enough last season when he posted a 1.72 K/BB ratio on his way to a putrid 2-14 record.
