The Reds optioned Bobby Livingston to Triple-A Louisville Thursday, according to the AP. Livingston had been competing for the last spot in the rotation but will lose out to either Kirk Saarloos or Matt Belisle despite a 1.23 ERA this spring. "We're excited with the way Livingston has pitched," manager Jerry Narron said. "He's been very, very impressive. It gives us a lot of confidence knowing there's a young guy pitching for us in Triple-A who looks like he's big-league ready."

Bobby Livingston, a candidate for the fifth spot in the Reds rotation, tossed three scoreless innings Wednesday against a Yankees team that had Derek Jeter, Jason Giambi, Alex Rodriguez and Hideki Matsui all in the lineup, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. "Any time you're playing against the Yankees, you want to pitch against those guys," Livingston said. "I wanted to face those guys. If you can get those guys out, there's no reason why you couldn't get anybody else out in the big leagues. I can't explain the feeling. It was a great feeling to go out there and have that kind of success tonight."

Livingston, who was claimed off waivers from Seattle, will start Wednesday's game. "I'm really looking forward to it," said Livingston. "I'm trying not to get too excited, just treat it like I did the other day. Put myself in a calm, collected state and try not to get too worked up about it."
