"We thought Guillen had been thrown at," Leyland said. "Only we threw ours low, and they threw theirs high -- right at a guy's head -- and it went all the way to the backstop on the fly. So that's my message.

Glen Perkins bounced back from a slow start nicely as he only surrendered two hits over three innings of work on Friday, with three strikeouts. Perkins had a 3.14 ERA over 28.2 innings of work in 2007.

Glen Perkins goal on Thursday was to make it through his outing without getting hurt, and in that respect he was successful. However, his performance was less than impressive as he allowed four hits and three runs in one inning. Perkins appears on track to possibly make the team in the bullpen, but it looks like he might end up being sent back to the minors to work on building up more arm strength in his shoulder.

Glen Perkins had another terrific BP session Tuesday and is on track to make a relief appearance in Thursday's spring opener. The lefty dealt with shoulder problems for much of last season but is feeling great now. "I feel even better than last fall when I came back," Perkins said in the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. "I feel like I was never even hurt. I have no reservations about doing anything." Perkins will compete for a rotation spot this spring but could also wind up in the bullpen.
