Jeff Keppinger has struggled since returning from the disabled list due to a broken knee cap. The Reds third baseman went 0-for-3 in Thursday's 5-3 win over the Nationals.

The Cincinnati Reds have activated shortstop Jeff Keppinger from the 15-day disabled list, according to MLB.com.

Manager Dusty Baker said the rash of injuries at shortstop for the Reds could force the club to reexamine the timetable for players who are close to returning from the DL. "We've got to check and see how they're doinghow they're really doing," Baker said in the AP. "There's how the player says he's feeling and doing and how those down there that are watching him say how he's doing." Jolbert Cabrera, who recalled earlier this month, became the fourth shortstop to be placed on the DL Saturday.

Jeff Keppinger isn't quite ready to return from the DL, despite the fact that he's hitting .429 in 21 rehab at-bats. "It's tempting," manager Dusty Baker said in the Cincinnati Enquirer. "But I talked to him; his legs are still sore." Keppinger is coming back from a fractured kneecap.

Team GM Walt Jocketty commented on Wednesday that Jeff Keppinger is around 7-10 days away from returning to Cincinnati, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Manager Dusty Baker said, "There's a lot Kepp has to do. You don't want his legs to fatigue. That's when you pull stuff. You want to make sure everything's back together before they get here."
