Ambiorix Burgos walked two batters in the ninth inning on Sunday, and both came around to score. He had the game won on a strikeout with two outs, but it came on a wild pitch, and the batter reached first base. Mike Wood came on to get the final out for his second save in as many days. Burgos has struggled mightily in his last three outings, allowing seven earned runs in two innings.

The Royals will insert Ambiorix Burgos as their closer with Jeremy Affeldt on the disabled list and Mike MacDougal struggling once again, according to the team's official website. "The thing about Burgos is he had 98, 99 miles per hour on his fastball and the splitter, and the slider and he's been able to throw strikes with his fastball," Royals manager Tony Pena said.

The KC Star reports that Ambiorix Burgos likely will be recalled from Double-A Wichita by the Royals today and could even take over immediately as the closer. "He's got electric stuff,” GM Allard Baird said, “and his field awareness is much improved." Burgos is 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA and 17 strikeouts in eight innings. He posted six scoreless innings in seven appearances.
