Yuniesky Betancourt is listed as "day to day" after an MRI exam Wednesday revealed a Grade 1 sprain of the flexor bundle in his right elbow, according to the Seattle Times. He suffered the injury while making a throw to first base on Saturday. Betancourt is unlikely to play Thursday, and the Mariners could simply decide to shut him down for the rest of the year.

The Mariners inked Yuniesky Betancourt to a three-year contract extension on Wednesday, according to the Seattle Times. The deal includes a club option for 2012. "I felt this was the right time," said Betancourt. "I felt comfortable with my team and my teammates, and since I felt comfortable, there was no need to wait any longer."

Yuniesky Betancourt could miss Friday's day game at Cleveland due to a court matter in Florida, the Seattle Times reports. Betancourt is testifying at the smuggling trial of agent Gustavo "Gus" Dominguez, who is charged with 53 counts of trying to smuggle Cuban baseball players into the United States. Seattle manager Mike Hargrove says he'll use Betancourt Friday if the shortstop can get to the park in time.
