Mike Pelfrey lost a no-hitter in the seventh inning on Thursday, and went on to lose his fourth game of the season, as Washington topped the Mets 1-0. Pelfrey only allowed the one run on three hits over 7.2 innings, with three walks and four strikeouts.

Mets RHP Mike Pelfrey continued to impress in picking up his second win of the season tonight, putting the Washington Nationals down 0-6. Pelfrey worked seven solid innings, failing to give up a single run on just five hits. He walked two, struck out four, and dropped his ERA to 1.50.

Mike Pelfrey is set to make his first start of 2008 today as he battles the Phillies, according to MLB.com. He has registered a loss in his only previous start against the Phillies, but Jimmy Rollins, who hit a two-run homer against him in that game, will not be in the lineup today due to injury.

With Friday's rainout, the Mets will skip Mike Pelfrey in the rotation, according to the AP. He was to start Saturday, but John Maine will now start Saturday and Johan Santana Sunday. Pelfrey will now figures to start against the Phillies next week.

The Mets have announced that young right-hander Mike Pelfrey will be their fifth starter, this according to the New York Post. Orlando Hernandez is expected to begin the season on the disabled list and build up his arm strength in the minors. Pelfrey will make his first start this Saturday in Atlanta.

Mike Pelfrey heads into Friday's mano y mano duel for the No. 5 job with El Duque, and pitching coach Rick Peterson just said on the ESPN broadcast of today's game at Disney that it will be a "photo finish" between the two, this according to New York Newsday. The two right-handers will split tomorrow's Florida finale against the Orioles in Fort Lauderdale. The report noted that while Orlando Hernandez opened camp with the slot, injuries have forced him to miss most of the spring work. Pelfrey, who made his full allotment of five starts, has been less than impressive registering a 8.31 ERA with 29 hits in 17 1/3 innings of work.

Mike Pelfrey, who is fighting for the No. 5 slot in the Mets rotation, was schooled for eight runs and 13 hits in 4.1 innings of work on Sunday. The Mets right-hander might win the final spot in the rotation by default as El Duque, his competition, might not be ready by the time the team needs a fifth-starter. Because of days off, New York doesn't need a fifth starter until April 12 against Milwaukee.

Mike Pelfrey allowed one hit over two innings while striking out one for the Mets on Wednesday. “I don’t know if it was a dominating performance, but I know I did a lot of things right,” Pelfrey said on a report on the AP. “All I wanted to do was be aggressive and throw strikes and that’s what I was able to do.” Pelfrey, who was 3-8 with a 5.57 ERA last season, will battle Orlando Hernandez for the Mets fifth and final rotation spot this year.
