Dustin Pedroia will probably spend the 2006 season at Triple-A Pawtucket now that the Red Sox have acquired Mark Loretta to play second base.

If the Red Sox don't re-sign Tony Graffanino or trade for a second baseman, they appear prepared to go into the 2006 season with rookie Dustin Pedroia sharing the job with veteran Alex Cora. Pedroia, a second-round pick in 2004, hit .324 with a .409 on-base percentage and a .508 slugging percentage in 66 games with Double-A Portland last season. In 51 games with Triple-A Pawtuckett, he hit .255 with a .356 OBP and a .382 SLG.
