GM Theo Epstein has stated that Dustin Pedroia is still being considered as a possible option at shortstop in 2007, although the Red Sox would prefer to let him play second, according to the Boston Herald. "Pedroia has played shortstop his whole life," Epstein said. "He certainly can play shortstop, but I think he’d have an easier transition to big leaguers as a second baseman." Pedroia, a shortstop in college, did not start playing second base until 2005 at Double-A.

Dustin Pedroia has been getting regular starts at seconds base with Terry Francona shuffling his roster elsewhere, the Red Sox official site reports. Mark Loretta has been playing first base of late, with Kevin Youkilis seeing time in left field. Pedroia is just 6-for-49 since coming to the majors, with one homer.

The Providence Journal reports that Dustin Pedroia will be called up this week to replace Alex Gonzalez, who will be placed on the DL today with a Grade 1 oblique strain. Pedroia is hitting .306 with five homers and 50 RBI in 110 games at Triple-A this year.
