Tyler Johnson has begun a long-toss program that puts him on track to return to the mound in early May, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Johnson was unable to complete the first few weeks of spring training because of a rotator cuff strain, but barring any setbacks, Johnson is scheduled to throw off the mound for the first time on May 7. He said, "I feel strong. I feel really strong, actually. When I'm playing catch, the ball is definitely coming out good. I don't feel like I'm trying to throw the ball as hard as I can to be able to throw decent."

Tyler Johnson received a cortisone shot in his left shoulder on Friday in hopes of boosting his recovery from tendinitis, and reducing the pain of a sprained rotator cuff, according to the St. Louis Post Dispatch. The team scheduled Johnson to meet with a doctor on Saturday for a re-evaluation, and have not ruled out surgery as a possibility. They boosted the treatment by giving him the shot Friday, and he can't throw for at least three days and will meet with team doctors on Tuesday. Johnson stated, "The recovery wasn’t going as planned, so the next step is to get the shot. Get the inflammation down so I can start throwing as soon as possible. I’m getting antsy."

Tyler Johnson will be re-evaluated Saturday so doctors can determine when the pitcher might return to spring work, this according to the Cardinals team website. Tyler has been ruled out for opening day, and a timetable for his return to pitching has yet to be established.

Tyler Johnson will remain inactive for at least another week, this according to the team website. The report notes that a re-evaluation of his injured shoulder determined that he is not yet ready to begin throwing again. Johnson has been sidelined with tendinitis and a rotator cuff strain. "I still have discomfort in there," Johnson said. "He said he wants me to be pain-free from doing my exercises, and I'm just not yet." It was believed that Johnson would not be be prepared for opening day, but this latest news cinches it.

Tyler Johnson had an MRI on his shoulder Monday, which revealed a strained rotator cuff and tendinitis, according to MLB.com. "Great news," Johnson said. "I don't have to have surgery. Any time you don't have to have surgery, it's great news. I wasn't sure if it was that bad, anyway. I was just feeling tired and a little weak. But I know now that there's nothing wrong, and I can go out there and do what I have to do." The lefty was shut down Saturday after experiencing weakness in the shoulder. Johnson may throw some long toss while he is recuperating, but he'll stay away from a mound for a while.

Tyler Johnson was shut down Saturday after experiencing tightness and weakness in his shoulder, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "We stopped him right there," trainer Barry Weinberg said. "Any time you have to stop a pitcher from throwing, there is a concern." Johnson will undergo an MRI Monday, which should give a better idea of exactly what is bothering Johnson, who missed two months last season due to biceps tendinitis.
