Although the Astros have yet to officially announce it, it appears that Matt Albers will start for them on Sunday against St. Louis, according to the Houston Chronicle. "He's going to have to pitch a lot more," manager Phil Garner said of Albers. "He's got a good enough sinker where I think the first time around the lineup he could throw nothing but fastballs and throw them down. He's got a power sinker. It's late, and it's deceptive." Albers holds an ERZ of 6.00 in four games (two starts) for the Astros this year. Albers posted a 12-3 record and 2.49 ERA in 23 Double- and Triple-A starts.

Matt Albers started in place of Andy Pettitte on Tuesday after Pettitte had to miss the start for personal reasons. Albers allowed six hits and five earned runs in 4 2/3 innings.

The Astros optioned Matt Albers to Triple-A Round Rock so that he is able to start a playoff game for them on Friday, according to the Houston Chronicle. Albers, who was recalled on Sept. 1 but hasn't pitched in a game since then, will return to the Astros when the Triple-A playoffs are finished. He held a 4.35 ERA in three games (one start) earlier this year with the Astros.

He held a combined 12-3 record and 2.49 ERA with Double-A Corpus Christi and Round Rock. Albers will pitch out of the bullpen with the Astros, though it's not out of the question that he could get a start or two down the stretch.

Matt Albers will make his first major league start on Thursday, according to the Astros website. In two relief appearances this season Albers, who was 10-2 with a 2.17 ERA in 19 starts at Double-A Corpus Christi, hasn't allowed a run (5 1/3 IP).
