The Orioles acquired Matt Albers from the Astros Wednesday in the Miguel Tejada trade. Albers, who posted a 5.86 ERA in 31 games (18 starts) this past season, could compete for a spot in Baltimore's rotation next spring.

Matt Albers will replace the injured Chris Sampson in the Astros rotation. In 19 games (eight starts) this year, Albers holds a 5.93 ERA. He deserves no attention outside of NL-only play.

Matt Albers was recalled from Triple-A Thursday, the AP reports. He's expected to work in middle relief, though he also has past experience as a starter. Albers was undistinguished in his first go-round with the Astros this year, posting a 6.35 ERA over seven starts.

Matt Albers, who was pitching on three days' rest because of Chris Sampson's sinus problems, earned his first major league win on Saturday. He allowed three singles in 7 1/3 innings, struck out two and walked one. "I don't know if it helped me, but I didn't feel any different than I would on normal rest," Albers told the AP. "They say short rest helps your sinker sink a little bit, and maybe it did."

The Astros recalled Matt Albers from Triple-A Round Rock Tuesday to replace the injured Jason Jennings on the roster, according to the AP. Albers was struggling with Round Rock, holding a 6.23 ERA over his first three starts. He will start Friday's game in Milwaukee.
