According to the Phillies' official website, manager Charlie Manuel wants to give Carlos Ruiz every opportunity to win the everyday catching job next season. Ruiz hit .307 with 16 homers in 368 at-bats with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre last season and .261 with three homers in 69 at-bats in the majors.

The Phillies optioned Carlos Ruiz to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Saturday to make room for Brett Myers on the roster, according to the Philadelphia Daily News. Ruiz was hitting .205 with one HR and three RBI in 44 AB this season.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Carlos Ruiz was recalled by the Phillies Tuesday to replace the injured Sal Fasano on the roster. Ruiz hit just .143 earlier this season with the Phillies, but he was 2-for-3 with a homer on Tuesday.

Carlos Ruiz has started three of four games since being recalled when Mike Lieberthal was placed on the DL. It was originally thought that Sal Fasano would get the bulk of the time, but that hasn't been the case. "I want to see what we have in Ruiz," Manuel said in the Philadelphia Daily News. Ruiz has one hit in 11 at-bats.

The Phillies recalled Carlos Ruiz from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to take the place of the injured Mike Lieberthal on the roster, according to the AP. Ruiz was hitting .385 in 25 games for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre before the promotion. He will back up Sal Fasano with Philadelphia.
