According to the Phillies' official website, manager Charlie Manuel wants to give Carlos Ruiz every opportunity to win the everyday catching job next season. Ruiz hit .307 with 16 homers in 368 at-bats with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre last season and .261 with three homers in 69 at-bats in the majors.

It was originally thought that Sal Fasano would get the bulk of the time, but that hasn't been the case. "I want to see what we have in Ruiz," Manuel said in the Philadelphia Daily News. Ruiz has one hit in 11 at-bats.
