Brandon Webb will pitch Game 1 of the NLCS, but manager Bob Melvin wouldn't reveal Monday how the rest of his rotation would shape up. Micah Owings, who was scheduled to start Game 4 of the NLDS had the series gone that far, will pitch in an Instruction League game today in Tucson, according to the Arizona Republic. He could possibly pitch Game 4 of the NLCS.

Micah Owings will have his next turn in the rotation skipped, the AP reports. He's winless in his last four starts and has dropped two straight decisions, and Arizona wants to keep its other starters on normal rest after Thursday's off day. "We'll give Micah a little distance," manager Bob Melvin said. Owings could come out of the bullpen in the meantime. "He handles it fine but he doesn't like it," Melvin said.

Micah Owings had the night of his professional life Saturday at Atlanta, carrying the Diamondbacks with both his pitching and hitting. Owings worked seven strong innings for his sixth win (three hits, three runs, seven strikeouts), but the real story is what he did at the plate: two mammoth homers, four hits, six RBI. As snappy as this performance was, let's not get carried away with what it may mean. The victory was Owings's first since June 20, and his ERA is still a pedestrian 4.70.
July 29, 2007
Micah Owings will get at least one more start before a decision is made on pulling him from the rotation. "So we'll see what happens this time around, and going into that next off day we'll see who did what, and if we need to make some changes, maybe we'll do it then," manager Bob Melvin told the Arizona Republic. "But right now we still feel like he can work it out." Owings has a 9.55 ERA during his past five starts, so he shouldn't be in anyone's lineup until he figures things out.
July 20, 2007
There has been some speculation that Micah Owings, who sports a 4.92 ERA this year, will be moved to the bullpen, but pitching coach Bryan Price still views the youngster as a starter, according to the Arizona Republic. "It's too easy to make starters into relievers," Price said. "I think this kid can start. There's no other way to get him to learn how to get through that maybe fourth at-bat against a hitter without letting him do it. I believe a lot in this kid, I think we all do." Owings has been hit hard his last few times out, holding a 10.43 ERA over his last three starts.
June 6, 2007
Micah Owings will have his next start skipped, meaning his next start will come on Saturday against the Red Sox. He threw a simulated game on Tuesday to keep him fresh, according to the Arizona Republic. "It was just to get his pitches to the point where the next time he goes out there, there aren't any cobwebs he has to shake out," manager Bob Melvin said.
May 10, 2007
Micah Owings will probably get skipped the next time through the rotation as Bob Melvin doesn't want to give his other starters too much rest, the East Valley Tribune reports. Owings was very sharp in his last turn, allowing just two runs over seven innings against the Phillies Tuesday.
May 2, 2007
The D'Backs will re-insert Micah Owings into the rotation when he is eligible to return on Thursday, according to the Arizona Republic. Edgar Gonzalez will head to the bullpen. "We feel like we have six good, big-league starters for five spots," manager Bob Melvin said. "We had to make a very difficult decision, and this is just what we settled on." Owings held a 2.93 ERA in three starts before going on the DL with a hamstring injury. Melvin said the club could skip Owings in the near future with a couple off days coming up.
May 1, 2007
Micah Owings threw a bullpen session Monday, but manager Bob Melvin wouldn't say what the club plans to do with him when he's eligible to come off the disabled list Thursday, according to the Arizona Republic. Owings is coming back from a hamstring injury. Edgar Gonzalez is scheduled to start Thursday. "That's the way our probables are going right now," Melvin said.

April 21, 2007
The Diamondbacks placed Micah Owings on the disabled list last night, according to the Arizona Republic. He tested his sore hamstring with a bullpen session earlier in the day, but it was clear he wouldn't be able to make his scheduled start on Sunday. Manager Bob Melvin said the team is leaning toward recalling right-hander Yusmeiro Petit from Triple-A Tucson to make the start.
April 20, 2007
Micah Owings will throw his bullpen session Friday as the Diamondbacks give him an extra day to recover from hamstring tightness that forced him out of his last start, the Arizona Republic reports. Bob Melvin said Owings will go through "the gamut" of drills, including pitcher's fielding practice, as the club determines whether he'll be able to make his scheduled start Sunday in San Francisco.
April 19, 2007
Micah Owings played catch yesterday and said his tight hamstring felt fine, according to the Arizona Republic. Owings left his last start after the muscle "locked up" on him, but he's hopeful of making his next start on Sunday. More should be known after he tosses a bullpen session today or tomorrow.

Micah Owings was sharp on Sunday against the Mariners, pitching two scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out three. He's competing for the No. 5 spot in Arizona's rotation. If he doesn't win the job, GM Josh Byrnes has stated that Owings could be used in a relief role.
February 20, 2007
Micah Owings will be given a shot to win the No. 5 spot in the D'Backs rotation, but if he doesn't get it, the team could use him in a bullpen role, according to the Arizona Republic. "He could do either," General Manager Josh Byrnes said. "It could be a bit of where he's best and where he's most needed." Owings was 16-2 with a 3.33 ERA in 27 Double- and Triple-A starts last season.
