Player Notes
April 22, 2008
Ronny Cedeno had a grand day at the park on Tuesday. The infielder went 2-for-5 with a run-scoring double and a grand slam. He finished the afternoon with five RBI, giving him 10 runs driven in over the past four games.

The Cubs have opted to keep Ronny Cedeno over Alex Cintron, the Chicago Tribune reports. The move is not official, but Cintron's locker is clean and he is not at camp. Cedeno will be a backup at shortstop and second base.
March 18, 2008
With hopes of making the major league roster, regardless of the position it might be in, Ronny Cedeno showed well in today's win for the Cubs, edging the Royals 6-5. Cedeno batted 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, one RBI, and two runs scored. Cedeno has been rumored as a potential component in trade for Brian Roberts, but outings like this may have the Cubs thinking Cedeno should be kept. Finding a backup at center field has been an priority and Cedeno may have more to offe than Eric Patterson. If the hot bat continues, it would seem that Cedeno would get a shot and the Cubs would try to find room for him.

The Alex Cintron signing has led to speculation that the Cubs are ready to include Ronny Cedeno in part of a package for Brian Roberts, though GM Jim Hendry said it was "not necessarily" a precursor to another deal, according to the Chicago Tribune. Cedeno has played mostly shortstop in the big leagues, though he's also spent time at second and third and could be asked to play some in center field this year. He tried center out in Venezuela over the winter. "We felt he could [play center] because he shagged there last summer from time to time," manager Lou Piniella said. "Just part of his versatility. But he's still an infielder. He's going to compete for a spot on the ballclub, and it's not going to be as an outfielder."
September 2, 2007
The Cubs recalled Ronny Cedeno from the minors on Saturday. Cedeno's star has fallen over the last couple of years, and he holds no value in a utility infield role.
