Jeremy Accardo wasn't even warming up Tuesday when the Blue Jays had a save situation against Boston. Scott Downs and Casey Janssen were the pitchers the team opted to get warm; Downs entered the game to pick up the last out, fanning Jacob Ellsbury. The Blue Jays said earlier in the month that they wanted to go easy on Accardo's arm down the stretch, and use a committee approach to save chances.

Jeremy Accardo recorded his 18th save Tuesday, although he did allow a pair of base runners in the ninth inning. It's the third straight day of work for Accardo (he blew a save Monday, and picked one up Sunday), so look for him to likely get the day off Wednesday, even if a save opportunity comes up.

Jeremy Accardo has given up nine earned runs in his last five innings after starting the season with a career-high scoreless streak of 21 2/3 innings, the AP reports. Accardo, who picked up losses Thursday and Friday, was rested Saturday while Casey Janssen picked up his third save. John Gibbons gave Accardo a vote of confidence, for what it's worth. "Nobody's ever going to be perfect," Gibbons said of the two recent losses. "It happens."

Jeremy Accardo picked up his third save of the year Tuesday, getting the final out against Baltimore. Accardo has now worked in four of the last five days, and the Blue Jays originally wanted to rest him here, so look for the newly-minted closer to get Wednesday off.

Jeremy Accardo closed out Saturday's win with a perfect ninth inning, striking out two. Accardo also finished Friday's win by striking out the side - he didn't get a save that night as he entered with a four-run lead. It's not hard to see that Accardo, still carrying a perfect 0.00 ERA, has turned into the de-facto closer for Toronto right now.

It appears the Blue Jays are moving a closer’s by committee approach now that B.J. Ryan has been lost for the season. "We'll give Jeremy Accardo a chance," general manager Ricciardi told MLB.com. "I think [Casey] Janssen and [Scott] Downs will get a chance to do it at some point. We'll see. We'll probably just go with whoever is hot. I think if we named someone right now, it wouldn't be fair to the player that hasn't done it." Accardo has not allowed an earned run in 12 innings this season. Jason Frasor has been the team’s closer since Ryan went down, but he has struggled in that role.

Jeremy Accardo has yet to allow a run in 13 2/3 innings this year, including two frames Wednesday night at Cleveland. It will be interesting to see if John Gibbons considers Accardo for more ninth-inning work going forward, given how Jason Frasor has struggled of late.
