As expected, the Brewers recalled Carlos Villanueva from Triple-A Nashville before Saturday's game. However, he's now expected to join the rotation, not work out of the bullpen, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "We'll stretch him out to 75 or 80 the first time, and then he'll be ready to go," manager Ned Yost said. "He's got six starts left, so he'll be OK - depending on how he does." He'll make the first of those starts on Tuesday versus the Astros.

Carlos Villanueva will be recalled from Triple-A Nashville Saturday. Villanueva allowed three runs while striking out nine over 8 1/3 innings in two starts for Nashville. He'll be used as the long man out of the Milwaukee pen. "That's a big boost, just getting him back," manager Ned Yost said in the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

The Brewers optioned Carlos Villanueva to Triple-A Nashville Tuesday. The right-hander held a 4.68 ERA while striking out 76 over 82 2/3 innings as the team's long man out of the bullpen. Seth McClung, whom the team acquired from the Devil Rays before the trade deadline, was recalled to replace Villanueva on the roster.

Even after the acquisition of Elmer Dessens, Carlos Villanueva will still make the Brewers' opening day roster as a member of the bullpen, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "Read between the lines," managed Ned Yost said. "Carlos has had a very, very good camp."

Carlos Villanueva could begin the year in the bullpen rather than at Triple-A, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "He's different than a young guy," manager Ned Yost said. "You can see where pitching every five days would have a benefit for a guy like (Yovani) Gallardo, for Manny Parra, (Mike) Jones - some of these younger guys. But Carlos is at the stage of his career where he knows what he's doing. He knows how to pitch and he's ready to be in the big leagues." Villanueva holds a 2.70 ERA with 12 strikeouts and no walks in 10 spring innings.

Carlos Villanueva has allowed only three runs in 10 innings this spring, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "I'm in season form right now," Villanueva said. "I've worked very hard in the off-season and I've worked hard here in preparing myself. I haven't heard anything from them, so my goal is to keep showing them that I can get the job done."
