Matt Garza allowed three earned runs on nine hits over 6.2 innings in Monday's 7-4 loss to the Royals at Tropicana Field, with two walks and five strikeouts. He left the game down 3-2, and ended with a no decision as the Royals rallied back to score four runs in the top of the 10th inning to win the game.

Rays starting pitcher Matt Garza came out of his first rehab start without issue, this according to MLB.com. It was his first start after landing on the disabled list on April 9, "I felt good. I got some good work in," said Garza. "The best part is I'm pain-free."

Matt Garza will make a rehab start at High-A Vero Beach on Sunday. He will throw four innings or roughly 60 pitches. If all goes well, Garza could be back in the Rays rotation by next Friday, the Tampa Tribune reports. He is out due to nerve irritation in his right arm.

Rays' starter Matt Garza threw 30 pitches off the bullpen mound today and came away pain free, this according to the Tampa Tribune. The radial nerve irritation that placed him on the 15-day disabled list was treated with an injection and has responded well. “I feel that good,” he said. “That’s my plan, but we’ll see what’s in store. Today is Day One of throwing off a mound. I felt good and I’m ready to get right back on it. Let’s go.”

The Rays are offering up more optimistic news on Matt Garza. The right-hander is recovering well from radial nerve irritation in his right arm and could be back in 2-4 weeks, MLB.com reports.

Matt Garza could be out anywhere from four to six weeks, according to the St. Petersburg Times. Garza underwent an MRI exam on his right arm that he noted showed "everything's fine," but he won't throw for at least five days and will be re-evaluated in about two weeks. He added that he plans to be cautious in his comeback after seeing how former team-mate Francisco Liriano was injured. Jeff Niemann is believed to be called up from Triple-A to take Garza's spot in the Rays' rotation on Sunday.

The Rays placed Matt Garza on the DL after Tuesday's game with a radial nerve irritation, which is a problem near the triceps, according to the Tampa Tribune. Garza has had the ailment before but has always been able to pitch through it. “I’ve usually been able to get through it, just kind of pitch through it and wear the pain and get it right after the game and get my work in,” he said. “This time it was just real bad – I knew something was up.” The Rays recalled Jae Kuk Ryu from Triple-A Durham. Ryu will be used out of the bullpen the next few days, and Jeff Niemann is expected to be recalled to make the start on Sunday in Garza's place.

Matt Garza exited Tuesday's game in the third inning with an undisclosed injury, according to the Tampa Tribune. The righty had not fared well before exiting, permitting three runs on six hits and three walks in 2 2/3 frames. The Tribune also notes that Jeff Niemann is on the same schedule as Garza at Triple-A, and he could get the call should Garza be sidelined for a while. Matt Garza is set to make his first start with the Rays on Wednesday against Baltimore, according to MLB.com. He was notably the prized prospect acquired in the Delmon Young deal with the Twins, and he ended spring training with a solid 2.45 ERA over six starts. Manager Maddon commented, "He pitched primarily against some of the better teams during Spring Training and I saw some bad swings against him. His stuff is better than I had read about. When you see it in person, I didn't know the actual fastball was that good or the changeup was that good, either. I heard about the breaking ball. I think he understands what was given to him. I think he appreciates the opportunity."

The Tampa Tribune reports that Matt Garza, who hadn’t allowed a run and had surrendered just five hits over 7 2/3 innings in his previous two starts, allowed an unearned run in the first inning of Tuesday's spring game. The run was due to his own throwing error. Expecting too much from the young right-hander this season would be a rotisserie error. The talented ex-Twin needs seasoning.

With spring training winding down, the Rays are hoping to see some consistency from Matt Garza on Monday, staring against the Phillies, according to MLB.com. Garza is part of a trio of young guns the Rays view as the key to their success. Thus far this spring, Garza has been up and down and offered little in the way of stability. With Scott Kazmir starting the season injured, Jamie Shields and Garza will need to step it up.

Matt Garza didn't impress in his first outing as a Ray. The ex-Twin needed 35 pitches to get through the first inning alone. Garza was knocked out of the game after he gave up one run on five hits allowed over 1 2/3 innings against Detroit. The Tampa prize of the six-player deal with the Twins will have his moments, but he will also have his hurdles, much like he did in his outing today.

With the acquisition of Matt Garza this offseason the team believes they have the youngest trio of talent in the league. Garza, Rays ace Scott Kazmir and James Shields make up the teams top three starters. According to SPTimes.com, Rays officials are comparing their three top starter to that of the A's in the early part of the decade. That trio included Tim Hudson, Mark Mulder and Barry Zito. The comparison is a stretch at this point, especially including Garza into the mix.
