Joey Devine reported to Single-A Myrtle Beach after having his back checked out and getting the go-ahead, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "We'll take it slow with him," Braves director of minor league operations J.J. Picollo said. "There is no timetable." After making two appearances with the Braves to start the year, Devine was sent down to Triple-A and threw just two pitches before injuring his back. The Braves have made a slight change in his delivery that they think will be beneficial to Devine's health, as well as his success on the mound.

Joey Devine threw a second live session of batting practice Thursday and is scheduled to pitch a simulated game Saturday, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Devine hasn't pitched since mid-April because of back problems.

Joey Devine still is recovering from the stiff back that has sidelined him since April 13, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Sent to Triple-A Richmond after two rough starts the first week of the season, Devine has only been working simulated games at extended spring training and may not rejoin Richmond until the middle of next month. "We're taking it slow," Braves assistant GM Dayton Moore said. "We're working on some issues with his mechanics while his back gets calmed down."

Braves assistant GM Dayton Moore said the lower-back stiffness that forced Joey Devine from yesterday's Triple-A Richmond game isn't likely to force the reliever to the disabled list, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Joey Devine left with back tightness after facing two hitters Thursday for Triple-A Richmond, according to Baseball America.
April 10, 2006
The Braves optioned Joey Devine to Triple-A Richmond. With Chipper Jones going on the DL, the Braves didn't really need a roster spot, so they must have specifically wanted to send Devine back to the minors.
April 6, 2006
The Braves recalled Joey Devine from Triple-A Richmond on Thursday, according to the AP. He could be given a look in the closer role at some point should Chris Reitsma falter.
April 1, 2006
The Braves have optioned Joey Devine to Triple-A Richmond, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Devine had 18 strikeouts and four walks in 11 spring innings but got caught in a numbers game once the Braves decided to move John Thomson to the bullpen. Devine should be back in the majors within a couple of months.
March 16, 2006
Braves manager Bobby Cox indicated that Joey Devine could open the season as Chris Reitsma's setup man, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He's yet to allow an earned run over eight innings this spring. Should Reitsma struggle after the season starts, Devine is an excellent candidate to replace him in the closer role.
March 13, 2006
Joey Devine leads the National League with 14 strikeouts over seven scoreless innings, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "That's pretty strong," Braves manager Bobby Cox said. "I'm sure it's a confidence builder. He's hitting his spots a lot better, and his breaking ball's so much better." Devine, who struck out five over two perfect innings Sunday, could close games if Chris Reitsma struggles.
