The Diamondbacks acquired Dana Eveland from the Brewers in the Johnny Estrada deal. Eveland was 6-5 with a 2.74 ERA in 20 games for Triple-A Nashville, including 19 starts, but he was hammered in nine big league outings.

The Brewers needed an extra starter, because Ben Sheets is headed to the disabled list. Eveland is 3-1 with a 0.75 ERA, 0.81 WHIP and 33 strikeouts in 36 innings pitched for Nashville this season.

Brewers manager Ned Yost said he told Dana Eveland at the beginning of camp that the pitcher would need to get in better shape to make the team, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "The first day we were here, we had a bit of a chat," Yost said. "He was a little heavy, for me. I would have liked to see him maybe 10 pounds lighter. We wanted him somewhere between 238 and 241 (pounds). I told him we need to stay on top of this. Dana is taking it real serious. He has worked real hard and he's about there now." Eveland is competing with Rick Helling and Dave Bush for the final spot in the rotation.
