July 5, 2008
Brian Wilson converted his 15th straight save of the year on Saturday night, his 24th overall to lead the National League.
July 2, 2008
Brian Wilson seems to have a legitimate shot to join Tim Lincecum and perhaps Bengie Molina on the All Star team this year, which is a surprise considering the expectations of the Giants this season. Four of his saves and 10 of his 37 strikeouts have come against Clint Hurdle's Colorado Rockies, who will manage the National League on July 13th.
June 18, 2008
Brian Wilson entered Wednesday's game with 19 saves. The last Giant to reach 20 by the All-Star break was Matt Herges in 2004.
June 12, 2008
Brian Wilson struck out two batters in an inning of work on Thursday against the Rockies to pick up his 19th save of the season.
May 29, 2008
Brian Wilson picked up his 16th save of the season on Thursday night in his 18th attempt for the Giants.
May 20, 2008
The San Francisco Giants scored two in the ninth to take the lead, but had to tie down the 6-5 win after allowing two runs to the Colorado Rockies in the bottom of that same final inning. Reliever Brian Wilson found his groove just in time to secure the 13th save of his season. Wilson went one inning and surrendered those two runs (both earned) on a Clint Barmes home run.
May 18, 2008
Pitching in a non-save situation, Brian Wilson looked awful on Sunday allowing four runs while getting just two outs as his ERA skyrocketed to 5.09.
May 13, 2008
Brian Wilson converted his 12th save in 14 chances this year for the Giants against the Astros.
May 11, 2008
Brian Wilson saved his 11th game on Sunday. The hard-throwing right-hander allowed a hit and struck out one in the ninth inning preserving a 4-3 Giants win over the Phillies.
April 24, 2008
Brian Wilson made it interesting but he still picked up his sixth save of the season for the Giants. Wilson allowed two hits and two walks, which led to a run in the 13th inning.
April 13, 2008
Brian Wilson provided a little excitement on Sunday. He came on in the ninth inning and allowed two singles before striking out two hitters and ending the game on a fly ball. Wilson earned his third save.
April 11, 2008
Brian Wilson nailed down his second save of the season against St. Louis on Thursday, as he went hitless over 2/3 of the ninth inning, with one strikeout, in a 5-1 Giants win. He won't likely get a lot of save chances this season, but you can't overlook that he already has a pair.
April 9, 2008
Brian Wilson had his second straight bad outing, and this time it cost him a save. The closer gave up a run on two hits and a walk Tuesday and now has given up three runs in three innings this year. He probably won't get a ton of save chances on the Giants, so Wilson can't blow too many.
April 7, 2008
Brian Wilson had a rough outing on Monday pitching in a non-save situation as he allowed two runs on three hits and a walk in 0.2 innings. It could have been much worse as Tyler Walker came in to save his bacon as he entered the game with the bases loaded and induced an out without allowing a run. It will likely be a bumpy road with Wilson this year, but the Giants are committed to him being their closer moving forward so unless he blows up he should be out there on the hill if the Giants ever have the chance to actually win a game.
April 3, 2008
Brian Wilson pitched 1.1 innings on Wednesday to pick up his first save of the season for the Giants. Wilson struck out one and allowed no hits while throwing just 15 pitches. The Giants are counting on Wilson emerging as the team's closer this season, and tonight was an excellent start toward meeting that goal.
March 12, 2008
Brian Wilson tossed a scoreless inning Wednesday and has been unscored upon in five of six outings this spring. Wilson has been anointed as the Giants closer for the '08 season. He has the stuff to succeed and could be a nice stopper to grab later on in your draft.
February 17, 2008
The Giants previously named Brian Wilson as their closer, and the 25-year-old right-hander sounds ready for the job. "No fear of a one-run lead, no fear of the ninth inning and no fear of the hitter at the plate," catcher Bengie Molina tells the San Jose Mercury News about Wilson. "He showed last year he's ready for that job."
