Scott Mathieson is expected to begin long-tossing in the next few days, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. However, manager Charlie Manuel said that "it is going to be a while" before Mathieson will be ready to throw in a game. He's still working his way back from 2006 Tommy John surgery.

Phillies assistant general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. told Philly.com that reliever Scott Mathieson visited team physician Michael Ciccotti yesterday and will soon visit specialist Dr. Lewis Yocum. The 24-year-old righthander, who is recovering from 2006 Tommy John surgery, has been experiencing discomfort in his pitching elbow.

Scott Mathieson is ready to take another step in his recovery from Tommy John surgery. The pitcher is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment on Monday, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. If all goes well, there's at least a chance that he will be able to make his season debut in September.
