Jim Johnson understood the simple formula he needed to follow to earn opportunities to pitch, notes the Washington Post. So, as the long reliever, Johnson has excelled. He did not allow an earned run until Monday night's 3-2 loss to the Oakland Athletics. He surrendered the game-winning run in the bottom of the 10th, ending his 17-inning scoreless streak.

Before Monday's game against the Chicago White Sox, O's skipper Dave Trembley named long reliever Jim Johnson the starter for Wednesday game against the Tampa Bay, this according to the Washington Post. However, Trembly was forced to use Johnson in relief during the Orioles' bizarre 11-inning stalemate with the White Sox, making him a question mark to start Wednesday.

The Orioles recalled Jim Johnson from Triple-A Norfolk Tuesday to replace the injured Scott Williamson on the roster, according to Sports Network. Johnson held a 2.81 ERA in three starts for Norfolk. He'll pitch out of the pen for the O's.
