Brian Burres lost his third decision in as many starts on Sunday. The southpaw allowed nine hits and four runs over six innings against the Royals. Burres walked two, struck out one, and mixed in a balk. The Orioles backed him with two hits and no runs.

The Orioles' fourth loss in a row -- the longest streak of the season, came after left-hander Brian Burres allowed eight hits and lasted just 5.1 innings, this according to the Washington Post. What he lacked in style, Burres made up for with grit, allowing four runs (three unearned) though it was clear early on that he lacked his sharpest stuff. Still, he left the game with his team trailing by two. Unsightly as his outing was, Burres gave his team a chance to win.

April 8, 2008
Brian Burres dazzled in his first start of the year Tuesday, giving up just one run on seven hits and two walks while striking out three over six innings. The left-hander has struggled in his time at the big leagues but has a good minor league track record. He's at least worth keeping an eye on.

Brian Burres is scheduled to make his first start of the season today against the Rangers, according to MLB.com. He beat out Matt Albers for the fifth spot in the Orioles' rotation, and started 17 games in 2007, with 20 appearances from the pen. He will battle Jason Jennings, who is 0-1 with a 7.20 ERA this season.
April 4, 2008
Orioles No. 5 starter Brian Burres was supposed to make his first start of the year on Sunday, but he's been pushed back to Tuesday, according to the Baltimore Sun. He will be available to pitch in relief tonight and maybe tomorrow. Jeremy Guthrie will start on Sunday and Daniel Cabrera will get the ball on Monday. Burres, who pitched an inning of relief in Monday's opener, isn't someone you need to be counting on in fantasy.

March 4, 2008
Brian Burres is competing for a job in the Orioles starting rotation, but even if he doesn't win a spot he's still expected to make the team. "I would think what he did for us last year, he is going to figure in somewhere for us," manager Dave Trembley said in the Baltimore Sun. The lefty allowed four hits and one run in two innings yesterday in his first spring outing. Burres didn't fare well with the O's last year, posting a 5.95 ERA and 1.70 WHIP in 121 innings, though his 7.1 K/9 rate wasn't bad. He shouldn't be drafted even if he wins a starting spot.
