Alex Romero will be optioned to Triple-A, according to the East Valley Tribune. He will be sent down to make room for catcher Miguel Montero, who is being activated from the DL.

According to the Arizona Daily Star, Alex Romero is the surprise of the 2008 Arizona Diamondbacks. With Eric Byrnes , Chris Young and Justin Upton entrenched in the outfield, and Jeff Salazar set as a backup, Romero appeared to be a long shot to make the club entering spring training. D-backs hitting coach Rick Schu said the youngster was impressive and was an easy choice to stick when making the decision to assign Trot Nixon.

Alex Romero has reportedly made the D-Backs' opening day roster, according to AZCentral. He was battling Trot Nixon for the fifth outfielder spot, and has beaten him out with a solid .333 spring average over 57 at-bats, with only two strikeouts.
