It hasn't been a good couple of weeks for Max Scherzer. First he was demoted to the minors and now he has been placed on the minor league disabled list due to shoulder fatigue, according to MLB.com. "Basically he needs to strengthen his shoulder," D-backs director of player development A.J. Hinch said. "He's not going to throw for a few days, and get [his strength training] underway. Then we'll see how he recovers. As the plan moves forward, we'll get him back on the mound. I don't anticipate it being a long-term deal."

Max Scherzer isn't quite ready for the big time. In his second loss, and the teams third in his starts, the big right-hander has command issues. The result were two unearned runs and ultimately a Diamondbacks loss.

The Diamondbacks won't press Max Scherzer to be an ace. Heck, he might not even stick with the big club for long. Scherzer will start on Monday and may only make another two or three outings before returning to the minors. "I think potentially a good byproduct of that is keeping Max's innings in check as we get him through the season," general manager Josh Byrnes tells the Arizona Republic. The club would like to limit him to around 140-150 innings this year. "We've been careful with him. I don't think he's gone beyond 90 pitches (in any appearance)," Byrnes adds. "It hasn't been a big exertion month for him. We'll always try to handle him with care."

Max Scherzer will start for the D-Backs on Monday, according to the Arizona Republic. Max Scherzer's dominating performance out of the bullpen in his major-league pitching debut on Tuesday has earned him his first start on Monday against Philadelphia(Scherzer threw 4.1 hitless innings, with seven strikeouts in his debut). Manager Bob Melvin stated, " He doesn't have to be a five-pitch guy. He's one of those few guys who can get by just on his fastball. But as a hitter, you can't just sit on that. He has a real easy delivery, and that adds to the ball getting on you quicker than you expect, especially the first time you see him."

As long as he can continue to throw strikes, Scherzer looks like a good fantasy prospect.

So it gives me a good taste to go back down to the minors and work on stuff and I hope to get up here as quick as I can." He may end up being a reliever, but the Diamondbacks will use him as a starter with Triple-A Tucson when the season begins.

Max Scherzer had a rough outing on Wednesday as he allowed he allowed three runs, including two solo HR. "It seems like every hit he's given up this year has been a home run," manager Bob Melvin said on MLB.com. "... But Max was pretty impressive out there. A lot of good fastball hitters and fastball talents aren't getting good swings off him." The former number one draft pick doesn't figure to stick out of camp, but he could be called up at some point during the season if he can learn to harness his dominating stuff.
