Ian Kennedy just completed his first bullpen session since straining his right lat muscle last month, according to MLB.com. He threw around 30 pitches under the watchful eyes of pitching coach Dave Eiland and bullpen coach Mike Harkey. Limited to only fastballs and changeups, Kennedy finished with his right arm feeling fine. Kennedy said, "It feels back to normal again. It was a very average bullpen, but it felt good, at least. It kind of felt weird throwing on the mound, because I've been throwing on flat ground for the past week, but it felt good to be out there on the mound."

Ian Kennedy, recovering from a strained right lat, made 35 throws while playing catch from 60 feet Tuesday, according to MLB.com. Kennedy said he didn't feel anything during the throwing session, and he's been relatively pain-free since Thursday. "Thursday, I felt a little something there because that was our first day of really stretching it out, trying to rub things out," Kennedy said. "On Friday, it felt significantly better. Saturday, it felt really good, and Sunday even better."

An MRI Wednesday revealed that Ian Kennedy has bursitis behind his scapular, as well as a right lat muscle strain, according to Newsday. It is the same injury Kennedy had last September. "Obviously you look at it any time you have a repeat injury, to see what's going on," manager Joe Girardi said.

Kennedy was lifted after throwing 12 pitches in a minor league and will likely be given the starting nod on Thursday in place of Kei Igawa. Ian Kennedy may have been scratched from the start, but he still got in the game, pitching 3.0 innings of relief after Kyle Farnsworth surrendered two runs on four hits over two innings. Kennedy pitched the final three innings, allowing two runs on two hits with two walks surrendered and three strike outs earned. Kennedy’s ERA still comes in at an astronomical 13.50, but the ability to come in and concentrate despite the circumstances, throwing 32 strikes on 52 pitches, shows he has the game to compete.

RHP Ian Kennedy was scratched from his scheduled start this evening against the Kansas City Royals, according to MLB.com. This was to be Kennedy’s second start of the season, but he was pulled in favor of RHP Brian Bruney. An unnamed official from the Yankees states manager Joe Girardi was concerned about a projected rain storm and thus preferred to go with Bruney. Kennedy struggled in his first outing, pulled after just 2 1/3 innings, and that could be cause for concern in this situation. Girardi may have a point and seems to have the interest of his young hurler at heart.
