Blackburn allowed three hits, walked one and struck out four in seven innings. Jesse Crain allowed two hits in the eighth, and Boof Bonser pitched a 1-2-3 ninth.

Nick Blackburn's fourth loss on Friday offered negative peripherals. The right-handers ground ball to fly ball ratio continues to be a concern with each passing start. The Twins starter allowed four home runs on Friday over 4.2 innings of work, this after giving up only seven in his first 93 innings this year. Blackburn’s ground balls have decreased and in turn his home runs allowed have spiked.

Nick Blackburn said his right elbow feels fine, even though his recent soreness prompted the Twins to move his start from Tuesday to Saturday, this according to the Star Tribune. "I could have made that start [Tuesday]," Blackburn said. "I feel fine, but this made sense."

Nick Blackburn's next start will be pushed back to Saturday due to soreness located in the back of his left elbow, according to MLB.com. Blackburn commented that he first felt soreness in the back of his elbow against the Yankees on June 1, which was the game he was hit in the face by a line drive. He added, "It's just like any other aching that goes on usually during the season. We were able to keep it under control and not have to miss any starts. It's not really a big deal, but they just want to take advantage of this off-day."

Nick Blackburn, who had to leave Sunday's start after getting hit in the face by a line drive, took some choppers hit right back at him Tuesday to test his nerves, according to MLB.com. The pitcher admitted to having jitters, but he came through the session fine. "[Third base coach Scott Ullger] hit one that skipped and I was a little jumpy," Blackburn said. "But it's good to get it out of the way."

Blackburn threw 86 pitches over seven innings, allowing just one run on five hits with just one walk surrendered versus six strike outs. No offensive support killed the effort as the Twins posted just four hits on the evening.

Nick Blackburn will make his first Major League start on Wednesday, according to the Star Tribune. He will duel with Joe Saunders of the Angels and Manager Gardenhire stated, “When he uses all his pitches, he’s got as good of stuff as anybody on this staff. He’s got a great curve ball, he’s got a great cutter, he can sink it, and he can throw the heck out of the ball. He had a good spring.” This is encouraging news for the young hurler.

The right-hander came into today's spring game with four scoreless innings. The Twins starter, took part in six 2007 contests, working 11.2 innings, giving up 19 hits and 10 earned runs. Blackburn is a long shot to make the opening day roster but his early spring performance has been promising.
