May 10, 2008
Brian Bocock has been optioned to Triple-A Fresno, according to CBSsports. Omar Vizquel returned from the DL today, and the team needed to free up a roster spot for him.
April 5, 2008
Brian Bocock went 1-for-2 with a walk on Saturday for the Giants out of the shortstop position. Of note is the fact that he also stole two bases in the outing. With Omar Vizquel's comeback from knee surgery taking a bit longer than hoped, it appears the Bocock will continue to maintain his meager NL Only value for about another week or so.
March 18, 2008
It appears the Giants are ready to give Brian Bocock , a non-roster invitee to spring training hailing from the power known as Stetson University, the job as Opening Day starter at shortstop, according to MLB.com. With Omar Vizquel nursing torn meniscus and Kevin Frandsen's erratic performance at shortstop in early Cactus League games, Bocock has become the favorite of manager Bruce Bochy who loves his fielding and hustle. "Range, arm, everything -- he's a Major League shortstop," Bochy said. Hitting just .182 this spring, his bat is not going to impress, but the young man is going to get a shot and could be a player to watch moving forward.
