Jed Lowrie not only started on Wednesday for the Red Sox to give Dustin Pedroia a day off, he has endeared himself to manager Terry Francona who said that even when Alex Cora is activated from the DL Lowrie will stay with the team, according to MLB.com. "He's done a great job of playing a couple times a week, and not letting his swing get long, making the plays, trying to listen," Francona said.

Jed Lowrie will start for the Red Sox tonight, likely at third base, according to MLB.com. He was called up from the minors when third baseman Mike Lowell went on the DL, and Manager Terry Francona said, "He'll play. Where, I'm not sure. He'll play third or short, we'll see. Probably third. Wouldn't mind giving 'Case' a day off. I've already told Lowrie to get ready to play somewhere." He is a switch-hitter and said this about his first start, "I'll go into the day and get my work in and approach it like any other day."
