Juan Gonzalez has been placed on the temporarily inactive list, according to MLB.com. The move means that he won't make the opening day roster, but he may still return to the team at a later time. He was hitting well before an abdominal strain took him out of action on March 10 and GM John Mozeliak mentioned, "We're going to keep the door open for him. We'll place him on the TI list, and he'll head back to Puerto Rico. When he's feeling ready to play, if he so desires, then we'll revisit maybe having him come to extended Spring Training. If you put him on that list, it allows for an open-door policy, and it doesn't lead to any negativity." Tony LaRussa added,"I told him he made a really good impression, and I'm disappointed because I think he could have provided something special to our club. He needs to get healthy, get the problem fixed."

Juan Gonzalez, who hasn't played in two weeks because of a strained abdominal muscle, remained out of uniform and back in Jupiter, Fla., on Sunday, this according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "They say, 'No hitting, no running, no nothing,''' Gonzalez said. "It's hard." Cards skipper Tony La Russa said he hoped Gonzalez would agree to report Triple-A Memphis for a while. "He's shown enough for us to get excited," La Russa said.

Juan Gonzalez will "back it off" further for the next five to seven days of spring work, this according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Team doctors continue to assess the abdominal condition that has hindered the one time MVP. Gonzalez was examined at a local doctor Thursday for a possible hernia, but the results proved negative. Maybe the team should take Juan Gone's age into consideration, and place the cause of injury into the "old" category.

Juan Gonzalez had an MRI taken of his abdominal strain, and the results should be announced on Monday, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. An initial look by the Cardinals team doctor revealed no structural damage, but we should know more later today.

Juan Gonzalez was held out of Thursday's spring work, this according to MLBlogs.com. The report notes that the veteran outfielder is dealing with a mild left abdominal strain. He was originally supposed to be in yesterday's lineup but was scratched. Gonzalez is a long shot to stick when final cuts are made. For now the team considers him day-to-day.

Juan Gonzalez is doing his best early on in spring training to earn an opening day roster spot. The 38-year-old blasted a three-run homer off Johan Santana Friday, one day after picking up two hits and an RBI. Gonzalez is batting .500 with four ribbies in two Grapefruit League games. It's early, but this is certainly a terrific start for the veteran.

Juan Gonzalez had two hits and produced an RBI as he attempts to make the Cardinals after being out of baseball since one AB in the 2005 season. So the long road back begins. We would bet that Gonzalez acquits himself well this spring with the stick, but his propensity to be hurt while blowing his nose marks him as a huge risk not worth taking even as a flier at this point unless you are in an NL Only league.

Juan Gonzalez will attempt to return to baseball this season as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals as one of the team's 26 non-roster invitees to spring training. Gonzalez has been working out this past off-season with Cardinals star Albert Pujols, who encouraged the team to give the former MVP a shot to play in '08 despite the fact that Gonzalez hasn't played since he posted a single AB during the 2005 season.

Juan Gonzalez is about to sign a minor league deal with the Cardinals, according to Newsday. It was reported a couple of weeks ago that the Cards were interested in bringing him in for a look this spring, and it appears it's going to happen. Gonzalez has more MVP's (two) than at-bats (one) in the past three seasons, so expectations should be pretty low if he makes a comeback.

Juan Gonzalez might not be done playing just yet. The 38-year-old is attempting a comeback, and the Cardinals have discussed extending him an invitation to spring training. Gonzalez has been working out at Eduardo Perez's Winter Training Program in Puerto Rico. "He really never stopped playing," Perez told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "He looks great, like he hasn't missed a beat. His legs look strong. Once a hitter, always a hitter." Gonzalez hasn't played since tearing a hamstring in his first at-bat of the 2005 season.
