Alex Rodriguez (quadriceps) will return to action on Saturday to play the first of three scheduled games in extended spring training, according to the Associated Press. “We have one more day tomorrow to see how my body is going to react,” Rodriguez said. “Saturday, Sunday, Monday, play, and then hopefully tee it up Tuesday.”

Alex Rodriguez is expected to run the bases at Tropicana Field before today's game, in what could likely be the final test before playing in rehab games, according to Newsday. A-Rod has been on the DL since April 30 due to a strained right quad. Manager Joe Girardi said, "The plan is to have him work out in front of us. I want to see it with my two eyeballs. You have to see where he's not favoring or he's not slower. I want to see him run at full speed."

Alex Rodriguez is hoping to rejoin the Yankees early next week, according to the AP. A-Rod said, "We’re aiming for next Tuesday at home. Everyday it’s much better. You’ve got to be smart, so it’s a good way to go."

The Journal News reports that the MRI taken today on Alex Rodriguez revealed progress. But not enough to start playing in rehab games as was the hope among the Yankee faithful. The report notes that Joe Girardi told the media that Rodriguez will not be activated this week, meaning he’s out for the Mets series. “We can’t afford to have him come back for two days then lose him for six weeks,” Girardi said. “We want to have him fully healed.”

Alex Rodriguez will undergo an MRI on his strained right quad muscle on Monday, according to the NY Daily News. If the MRI shows the Grade 2 strain in Rodriguez's quad has healed sufficiently, he could play in extended spring training games on Tuesday and/or Wednesday, lining up a Thursday return from the DL. Manager Joe Girardi said, "We'll have to talk to the doctor and see where they think he's at. He has to feel comfortable and we have to feel comfortable with his leg before we bring him back."
