Alex Rodriguez and the Yankees have agreed to the outline of a $275 million, 10-year contract, a deal that potentially would allow him to earn millions more if he sets the career home-run record, the AP reports. "The meeting was a final get-together," Yankees senior vice president Hank Steinbrenner said. "He wanted to make sure myself and my brother knew that he was sincere and serious." The Yankees still must draft the agreement with Rodriguez's agent, Scott Boras. Asked whether the only remaining details were putting the deal on paper, Steinbrenner responded: "pretty much so."

Alex Rodriguez is discussing a deal with the Yankees that would net him $275 million over 10 years, according to Newsday. There were reports that the Yankees would only meet with A-Rod if agent Scott Boras wasn't present, but the Players Union wouldn't allow that, and the Yanks have since stated they're willing to work with Boras. Initially, it appeared to be longshot that Rodriguez would return to the Yankees; now it's a longshot that he doesn't.

Perhaps Alex Rodriguez's days in the Bronx aren't over after all. The New York Daily News reports that A-Rod and the Yankees have been discussing a deal over the past couple of days. The catch, however, is that Scott Boras isn't involved. "We will not negotiate with Scott Boras," a Yankees source said. "He cannot be in the room." Apparently, the Yankees are looking to sign the slugger to a below-market contract that would make up for the $21 million from the Rangers that was lost when A-Rod opted out of his contract. Rodriguez is expected to be meeting with Hank and Hal Steinbrenner directly. It's not surprising that the Yanks have realized they're simply not as good without Rodriguez, but it still seems to be a longshot that he would sign a below-market deal.

GM Brian Cashman has announced the Yankees will offer arbitration to Alex Rodriguez, according to Newsday. If A-Rod accepted, he would be contractually bound to the Yankees for 2008. Obviously, there's very little chance of the slugger accepting, but in doing this, the Yanks ensure that they'll get compensatory draft picks from whichever team signs him.

The Giants are thought to be one of the team's that will pursue Alex Rodriguez this winter. However, GM Brian Sabean indicated the club's chances of acquiring the All-Star would be "a reach," according to the AP. "I don't even know that they know what their expectations are," Sabean said of A-Rod and agent Scott Boras. "You have to do due diligence. I think that's the best way to put it: kick the tires on anything, including him. In baseball, almost anything is possible. How probable something like that would be would be a reach for me for the reasons you said. It can literally hamstring what you want to do for quite a while." The Giants do need to add some pop to their lineup after the departure of Barry Bonds, but bringing in A-Rod may not be the wisest investment - although, let's be honest, spending $30 million per year on one player won't be a wise investment for any team.

Angels owner Art Moreno maintains that he doesn't envision paying any one player $20 million next year, but GM Tony Reagins has already spoken with Scott Boras about Alex Rodriguez, and Moreno and Boras plan to meet sometime soon, according to the LA Times. "You have to look at the long-term picture," Reagins said. "When you make that type of investment, you want to make sure you can absorb it. If it makes sense, you pursue it." Despite Moreno's claims, the Angels are clearly interested in the slugger, and they figure to be heavily in the running when A-Rod hits the open market.

Could Alex Rodriguez be reunited with his first manager, Lou Pinella, in Chicago? "His name hasn't ever come up," Piniella told the Chicago Sun-Times. "I don't think there's anything there." Despite Pinella's comments, the club did not rule out the possibility of pursuing A-Rod. "[Rodriguez] would be a fit anywhere," Piniella went on to say. "I think he would be an asset on any team. We have Ramirez at third base. We signed [Alfonso] Soriano last year to a big contract. Our payroll seems like it's headed up some. But I don't know about that much." With Aramis Ramirez manning the hot corner, A-Rod would have to move back to shortstop.

Alex Rodriguez has opted out of his 10-year, $252 million contract with the Yankees, making him elgible to become a free agent, according to the AP. He loses the final $72 million in guaranteed salary in the contract. "Alex's decision was one based on not knowing what his closer, his catcher and one of his statured pitchers was going to do," agent Scott Boras said. "He really didn't want to make any decisions until he knew what they were going." The Yankees have stated they won't pursue A-Rod in free agency if he opted out, so it appears his career in New York is over. Rodriguez will be seeking a contract that nets him at least $30 million per year over 8-10 years.
October 18, 2007
Yankees GM Brian Cashman reiterated Wednesday that if Alex Rodriguez opts out of his contract, the Yanks will not pursue him in free agency. "Yes, I can reaffirm that," Cashman said in the New York Times. "If Alex Rodriguez opts out of his contract, we will not participate in his free agency. That is accurate and that is definitive." The reason for the Yankees' stance is that they would lose the $30 million the Texas Rangers would pay of the $91 million Rodriguez can make for 2008-2010. A-Rod's agent, Scott Boras, said last week that his client is likely to opt out of his deal.
October 10, 2007
Alex Rodriguez is likely to opt out of the final three years of his current contract, his agent Scott Boras told the AP Tuesday. New York likely will approach Boras with an extension offer in the next few weeks -- Rodriguez must make his decision whether to opt out by the 10th day after the World Series ends. It's believed that the Yankees will cut off negotiations with Rodriguez if they can't get a deal done in this window.

A-Rod went 0-4 Friday night against the Indians bringing his hitless streak to 18 postseason at-bats, dating to last season. Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez underwent x-rays on the ankle he injured during Tuesday’s game and they came back negative. "It's a little sore right now," Rodriguez s told the New York Daily News. "I'll see how I feel in the morning. I took some X-rays and they were negative. You never know. I'll see how it is when I wake up in the morning. It's swollen a little bit now." Rodriguez may rest the ankle on Wednesday, but fantasy owners can safely expect him to play this weekend at the Royals.

Alex Rodriguez was held out of Wednesday's game due to sore right calf. "It doesn't seem to be anything the trainers are concerned about," manager Joe Torre told the AP. A-Rod was plunked by Josh Towers on Tuesday, presumably in response to distracting Howie Clark while running the bases on a pop-up back in May. The sore muscle combined with playing on the hard turf in Toronto led Torre to hold A-Rod out. He's expected to play again soon.
August 4, 2007
At 32 years old, Alex Rodriguez became the youngest player in baseball history to hit his 500th home run on Saturday against the Royals, according to the AP. The homer came off Kyle Davies in the first inning. He now has 36 dingers on the season.
July 12, 2007
Although the Yankees have expressed interest in discussing a contract extension with Alex Rodriguez , but A-Rod’s agent, Scott Boras, doesn’t think his client will want to. "We are not going to be negotiating during the season," Boras told the New York Post. "This is Alex's decision. This has been his policy, and I fully expect this to continue to be his policy." Rodriguez’s time in New York has been rocky, but if the Yankees come through with the highest offer, expect Alex to stay put. Boras is asking for $30 million a year.
July 8, 2007
Alex Rodriguez said after Saturday's game that he will take part in Tuesday's All-Star contest, according to the New York Daily News. His strained hamstring isn't 100 percent, but it's a good sign that he plans to keep playing through the injury.
July 6, 2007
Alex Rodriguez returned to the starting lineup on Friday night, though his status for next week's All-Star game remained uncertain, according to the AP. He missed his first game of the season Thursday because of a strained left hamstring. An MRI exam came back normal.
July 6, 2007
Alex Rodriguez should return very soon. The Associated Press is reporting an MRI on his injured left hamstring came back negative and he may be back in the lineup as soon as Friday. If A-Rod can return to the starting lineup this weekend, expect to see him in the All-Star game. Keep him active in your fantasy lineup.
July 5, 2007
Alex Rodriguez told the New York Daily News that his hamstring is still bothering him and he may need to head to the disabled list. "I'm going to have to sit down with Joe [Torre] and evaluate what we want to do here coming into the break," Rodriguez said. "I just want to be smart and have some precaution with it." Rodriguez was not in the lineup on Thursday against the Twins.
July 3, 2007
Alex Rodriguez was back in the lineup Tuesday, one day after leaving with a strained left hamstring. A-Rod was hurt when he tripped over first baseman Justin Morneau's ankle while beating out a potential double play, according to the AP. We will keep a close eye on him, but this is good news to A-Rod owners who feared the slugger may have to sit out awhile.
July 2, 2007
Alex Rodriguez left in the sixth inning Monday night because of a strained left hamstring, according to the AP. He suffered the injury while running out a fielder's choice grounder to third base. Rodriguez stayed in the game, but he was re-evaluated and removed from the game after advancing to second on a walk to Jorge Posada.
May 6, 2007
Alex Rodriguez was pulled from Saturday's game in the eighth inning after being hit on his left elbow by a pitch, according to the New York Daily News. Although manager Joe Torre said the move was just a precaution so A-Rod could ice the the joint, Rodriguez said he might get X-rays in the morning and wasn't sure he'd be able to play on Sunday. "We'll see," Rodriguez said. "I hope so."
April 24, 2007

The Yankees don't intend to offer Alex Rodriguez a contract extension, leaving him the option of opting out of his deal after the season and becoming a free agent, the AP reports. "Alex has a significant contract. The most significant in baseball history," Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Wednesday. "He has a decision to make. It's in his contract. It's a right he's earned."
February 7, 2007
Alex Rodriguez has a clause in his contract with the Yankees that allows him to opt out of his contract after the 2007, according to Newsday. When asked about whether he would consider exercising the clause, he dodged the question. "My situation and my only goal is to win a world championship," he said. "I'm going to take it day-to-day and that's about it."
