A judge in Pinellas County dismissed a domestic violence allegation against Jorge Cantu, according to the Palm Beach Post. Nanci Michelle Ikerd was denied a request for a protection order against Cantu on April 23 before a second request was dismissed Wednesday. She claimed she sustained bruises to her left biceps and was verbally threatened by Cantu on February 8. Steve Canter (Cantu's agent) said, "The charges were false. The court not once, but twice rejected her claims."

Mike Jacobs' ailing left quad felt better than expected Thursday, but the Marlins were taking no chances on losing their top run producer for an extended time and went with Wes Helms at first base, according to the Palm Beach Post. Manager Fredi Gonzalez said, "He wants to play but we've got to make sure he's OK. We don't want to make it worse and all of a sudden he's sitting for two weeks." Jacobs said he is 95 percent sure he will be back in action tonight against Washington.
