Lackey named Pitcher of the Month New York, NY (Sports Network) - Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim right-hander
John Lackey was named the American League's Pitcher of the Month for June,
posting a 5-0 record with a 1.16 ERA.
The 29-year-old Lackey allowed just five earned runs on 23 hits with 34
strikeouts in 38 2/3 innings, winning all five of his starts. He lasted at
least seven innings in each of his starts in June.
For the season, Lackey is 6-1 with a 1.44 ERA and 54 strikeouts in 68 2/3

Baseball writer Ed Price is reporting on Twitter that the Angels have agreed to a two-year extension with outfielder Bobby Abreu. No financial terms of the deal were disclosed.
Gary Matthews Jr. is ready to leave the Angels after serving a reduced role in 2009, according to the Los Angeles Times. He said, "I do not expect to be back; it is time to move on. I am ready to play for an organization that wants me to play every day. This organization has other plans, and that is OK."
Joe Saunders didn't last long in his final start of the 2009 season. He was chased in the fourth inning after allowing three runs, and the Yankees went on to win 5-2 to clinch the ALCS.
