Yankees place Betemit on DL Bronx, NY (Sports Network) - The New York Yankees placed infielder Wilson
Betemit on the 15-day disabled list Sunday.
Betemit left Saturday's 5-2 win over the Detroit Tigers in the fourth inning
with a strained right hamstring.
Betemit, who was activated from the disabled list on Wednesday after missing
17 games with corneal conjunctivitis, slammed an RBI double over the head of
centerfielder Curtis Granderson and appeared to pull up after rounding first
base.
Morgan Ensberg pinch-ran for Betemit and finished the game at third base.
The finale of the weekend series between the New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers was postponed by rain on Sunday. A makeup date wasn't immediately announced. Yankees' starter Andy Pettitte is scheduled to pitch on Monday at Tampa Bay. Nate Robertson of the Tigers, has not been announced as Detroit's pitcher for Tuesday's contest at Kansas City.
Due to Sunday's rainout, the Yankees may be able to skip Kei Igawa's next scheduled start. The problem is that Ian Kennedy was supposed to work a Triple-A on Sunday, but his outing was also washed away, Newsday explains. At the moment, Igawa is still listed as a starter for either Thursday or Friday.
Wilson Betemit was placed on the DL following Saturday's game. He strained his hamstring while legging out a double. Alberto Gonzalez was called up from Triple-A to take his roster spot, the New York Post confirms.
