Pau Gasol was unable to practice on Friday due to his sprained ankle. "It doesn't look too good but as far as strength and stuff, it's feeling better than it was (Thursday)," said Gasol, according to the Commercial Appeal. "Better now than later. At this point and time, it's not as bad as it could have been. It's not as bad timing as it could have been. It would have been worse in the middle of the year." Hopefully, he'll be able to practice next week, but it's possible he could miss the start of the regular season.

Memphis center Pau Gasol sprained his left ankle in Wednesday’s preseason game against the Pacers, the Memphis Commercial Appeal reported. Gasol came down on Danny Granger’s foot in the first quarter, and after a couple of trips down the floor came out of the game for good with what was called a mild ankle sprain. He will undergo tests on Thursday to determine the extent of the injury. “It doesn’t seem like it’s pretty bad,” Gasol told the paper. “It’s just swollen right now.”

Despite the recent misfortune of the NBA Draft lottery, Grizzlies forward Pau Gasol wants to remain in Memphis. “I do,” Gasol told the Memphis Commercial-Appeal. “But the draft (lottery) didn’t go our way, and now other things are going to have to happen to be a better team. I’m talking about the coach and general manager. I don’t know how much this affects my situation. We’ll see. Let’s see how the franchise reacts.”

Grizzlies majority owner Michael Heisley called ridiculous a recent report that the team won't seek fair value for Pau Gasol in order to slice payroll, according to the Memphis Commercial Appeal. "It's pure B.S.," Heisley said. "There's absolutely no truth to that statement at all." He added: "I haven't heard of anybody making an offer we'd have interest in," Heisley said, adding that team owner Jerry West will ultimately make a decision on any potential Gasol deal. "I'm not the guy making the trade. But I know we're not going to trade Pau Gasol just to reduce the payroll. That's not a major part of this equation. We've got to get something great in return for him."

There have been earlier reports that Pau Gasol wanted out of Memphis and that the Grizzlies were doing what they could to trade him, but it's now a very real possibility that he'll simply stay put, according to the Memphis Commerical Appeal. The Grizzlies will deal him only if they can obtain a high draft pick, salary-cap flexibility, someone of comparable ability or a combination of each.

The Commercial Appeal reports that Pau Gasol wants out of Memphis, and it appears the Grizzlies are taking offers. Team president Jerry West acknowledged that they've had cursory talks with the Bulls. "The conversation was brief," West said. "But we're not giving him away. This franchise won't give him away. Period." Landing in Chicago wouldn't help Gasol's fantasy production, especially since he's been going off in Memphis' uptempo game under new coach Tony Barone.
