Player Notes

Zach Randolph was back in action Saturday and had 16 points and 11 rebounds at Denver. Unfortunately for New York Randolph was one of the few players who showed anything on this night; the hosts rolled to a 32-point win over the Knicks.

As expected, Zach Randolph was not with the Knicks Sunday when they faced the Heat. Randolph headed home to Indiana the day prior following the death of his grandmother. It's not clear when he will rejoin the team. With Randolph out, David Lee started and racked up 14 points and 14 boards. That's standard fare for Lee when he gets the minutes, but Randolph's arrival has limited Lee's production this season. Expect Lee to give similar production if Randolph misses another game.

The Knicks proabably will play Sunday's game without the services of Zach Randolph. He went home to Indiana Saturday following the death of his grandmother, and the club isn't sure when he will rejoin them, according to the New York Daily News. Normally, you'd probably see David Lee start in place of Randolph, but the Knicks face the Heat Sunday, and Shaq's so much of a load that Malik Rose might get the nod.

Zach Randolph had a big performance in his debut with the Knicks on Friday. The offseason acquisition tallied 21 points, 14 rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block. He took 23 shots, compared to Eddy Curry's 16 attempts. Curry scored 18 points, though, so at least for one game against the Cavs, the two big men were able to coexist on offense.

After selecting Greg Oden first overall, the Trail Blazers decided to clear up room in their frontcourt by sending Zach Randolph, Dan Dickau, and Fred Jones to the Knicks for Steve Francis and Channing Frye, according to ESPN. Randolph gives New York much needed interior help for Eddy Curry.

Trial Blazers general manager Kevin Pritchard said that he called Zach Randolph and his agent, Raymond Brothers, to tell them that the team has not been shopping the 25-year-old forward. “I want to be a part of this here in Portland,” Randolph told the Oregonian. “If not, I understand. I’ve been in this league for six years, and I know it’s a business, so I can’t take anything personal.” Randolph trade rumors have been swirling since the Blazers landed the No. 1 overall pick, which will likely be used to nab Ohio State center Greg Oden.
