The Bobcats traded Melvin Ely to the Spurs on Tuesday in exchange for forward Eric Williams, according to the AP. Ely, who had asked to be traded in late December, had played little in Charlotte after signing a one-year, $3 million qualifying offer before the start of training camp.

Melvin Ely asked for a trade at the end of December, the AP reports. Ely, who signed a deal with the Bobcats worth more than $3 million prior to the year, hasn't played in the last 12 games.

Melvin Ely made his preseason debut Monday and had nine points in 13 minutes. He had been battling a sore knee.
