David West is considered to be doubtful for Wednesday's season opener, due to his sprained ankle. "I don't see him playing Wednesday," said coach Byron Scott, who gave the team Saturday off. "He's coming in every day and getting treatment, but right now he's got to get healthy." It sounds like you can keep him on the bench for the opener.

David West sprained an ankle during Friday morning's shootaround. "He's day to day and we'll get a better idea on Sunday and Monday on how he feels," Hornets coach Byron Scott said, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. "There is a good chance he may not play Wednesday or Friday (against Portland). It's a grade two sprain, so he sprained it pretty good." That's a tough hit for West, who missed 30 games due to injuries last season. You should get him out of your lineups for the first week.

Although Byron Scott feels there's a 50-50 chance David West is ready for Friday's game with San Antonio, Scott is leaning towards being West back next Wednesday, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports. West is coming back from elbow surgery. "He feels good, but his timetable is a bit different," Scott said. "But we'll talk about it and just wait and see. I think the Toronto game (Wednesday) is a real possibility."

The Times-Picayune reports that David West has participated in three straight practices without experiencing soreness or swelling in his surgically-repaired right elbow. The Hornets are hoping that West will be able to return next week.

David West had a full practice Thursday for the first time in two months, The Oklahoman reports. West is coming back from elbow surgery. "It's another big step. We're happy it went well," Hornets general manager Jeff Bower said. "The big test is how he feels the following day. We're happy with what he was able to do today. Hopefully, tomorrow it will still feel good." Hornets coach Byron Scott did not specify a return date for West, but it could be as early as next Friday's game at San Antonio.

David West is shooting some and working on his conditioning, as he recovers from elbow surgery, according to the Times-Picayune. He doesn't have a timetable for a return, though he's improving. "We've seen clear progress, and I feel better about it every day," GM Jeff Bower said. "He's getting closer to his return."
