Head coach Avery Johnson didn't simply cancel practice on Monday for no reason. He was angry that Josh Howard threw a birthday party on Sunday night after the Mavericks lost to the Hornets. Sources tell the Dallas Morning News that a few other players attended, but the paper does not list the names. Howard also drew ire this postseason when he talked about his marijuana habits and played poorly in the first round series.

Josh Howard insists he is healthy, even if his shooting numbers suggest something else. "They're just not falling. That's part of the game, though. You can't hit every shot," Howard tells the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "I just have to contribute on the other end, rebounding, guarding the best offensive player on the other team. Anything, I'm going to do it."

Since the All-Star break Josh Howard has played through a sore back and a stomach illness and as a result has suffered through some tough times on the court, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Howard has averaged 14.5 points, nearly six off his season average. In the forwards last four games he has made only 22-of-75 shots (29.3 percent).

Howard will most likely also sit out the team's game on Thursday since there is no reason to rush him back into action with the All-Star game coming up. With today's Jason Kidd trade in the mix, this could be one interesting game for the Mavs as they try to piece together a lineup that also might be without Erik Dampier.

Jason Terry replaced Howard in the starting lineup Saturday, but Howard is expected to rejoin the Mavs for Monday's game.
