Spurs center Fabricio Oberto chose to opt out of the final year of his three-year deal to become a free agent on July 1. Obertos agent, Herb Rudoy, told the San Antonio Express-News that Oberto wants to sign a long-term deal with the Spurs. He has no intention of going anywhere else, Rudoy said. Thats why he did it. The whole purpose of this is to get a new contract. They recognize his contribution.

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said after practice yesterday that Fabricio Oberto will be available for Game 1 against the Nugs today, according to the Denver Post. He's recovering from a procedure that corrected an irregular heartbeat.

Fabricio Oberto passed follow-up tests following a procedure that corrected an irregular heartbeat, according to the San Antonio Express. It's possible that he could practice today and play tomorrow, though the Spurs obviously will be cautious.
