Greg Oden has packed on 29 pounds of muscle since July. The Trail Blazers recently decided to curb his bulking up and have him focus on building his core strength, according to the Oregonian. He now weighs 282 pounds, which will make him all that more scary if he is able to fully recover from his microfracture surgery.

No. 1 overall draft pick Greg Oden has struggled with lingering knee pain in his right knee during offseason workouts, so will undergo exploratory arthroscopic knee surgery on Thursday, The Oregonian reported. A news release from the Trail Blazers on Monday said that Oden underwent a magnetic resonance imaging exam last week and results revealed that he might have cartilage problems in the knee. A team source said that the test results were inconclusive and that the damage could be as minor as a cartilage injury or as major as a ligament tear.

Greg Oden will be shut down for the rest of the summer league season to have his tonsils removed, according to The Oregonian. Oden’s swollen tonsils are obstructing his air passage, limiting his ability to breathe and thus his stamina. A final decision hasn’t been made on the surgery, but the report said it is likely Oden will fly to Portland for a tonsillectomy late in the week. The recovery time is expected to be about two weeks.
