The San Antonio Spurs want to bring Kurt Thomas back to the team, reports the San Antonio Express-News. Whether(Tiago) Splitter was coming or not, Kurt Thomas was a guy we wanted to re-sign, Spurs coach Gregg Popovich told the paper.

Kurt Thomas played his first game for the Spurs on Monday night and he responded with four points and nine boards in just over 13 minutes of action. Thomas figures to be a defensive presence who will hit the boards hard, so don't expect consistent offensive production from him since 2004-05 was the last time he scored or rebounded in double-digits.

Kurt Thomas, the Spurs new center/forward, didn't play in the Saturday night win over New Orleans. Thomas, acquired from Seattle on Wednesday for Brent Barry, Francisco Elson and a 2009 first-round pick, was dressed but didn't see any court time.
