Tony Battie told the AP on Wednesday he definitely wouldn't return in time for the playoffs. Battie had rotator cuff surgery in October and was a long-shot to come back this season.

Magic GM Otis Smith said he'd be "shocked" if Tony Battie returns to action for the playoffs, but Battie still is holding out hope, according to the Orlando Sentinel. "I'm not supposed to [be able to play], but I'm staying optimistic," he said. "If it heals up quicker than expected, who knows?" He was expected to require 6-9 months to recover from his shoulder surgery, and six months would be right about when the postseason begins.
