July 19, 2007
The Rockets have gone back in time and signed Steve Francis to a two-year contract, according to the AP. He had his most productive years in his first run with the Rockets, but things have changed. Yao Ming's come into his own, T-Mac is around, and Francis had looked like anything but a Franchise player since leaving Houston. He should start at the one or two and carry some fantasy value if he puts out any effort.
July 18, 2007
Steve Francis, who cleared waivers Tuesday night to become a free agent, will narrow his list of potential suitors from four to two and could sign a deal as soon as tonight, his agent told the Miami Herald. The Clippers, Rockets, Mavericks and Heat are all potential landing spots for Francis, who got a $30 million buyout from Portland. While the Rockets and Mavericks appear set at point guard, the Clippers and Heat could offer Francis a starting job or significant minutes at the position.
July 11, 2007
The Trail Blazers agreed to terms on a buyout with Steve Francis Tuesday afternoon, waiving the 29-year-old former all-star and allowing him become an unrestricted free agent, the Washington Post reports. Francis is expected to easily clear waivers in seven days, since no teams have the cap room nor the desire to absorb the $34 million remaining on the final two years of his contract.
July 2, 2007
Acquired last week from the Knicks, Steve Francis is expected to have his contract bought out by the Trail Blazers, which would make him an unrestricted free agent. Apparently, the Clippers have locked in on brining Francis to Los Angeles, according to the LA Times. The Clippers must be looking for a younger ball-hogging malcontent to eventually replace aging ball-hogging malcontent Sam Cassell. If he actually performed up to his skill level, the 30-year-old Francis could still produce well for the Clippers and in fantasy terms. Plus, he'd team up with his old Houston pal Cuttino Mobley, which might make him happy enough to care about playing hard.

March 27, 2007
Steve Francis was benched by Isiah Thomas in favor of rookie Mardy Collins at the start of the second half on Monday against the Magic, according to Newsday. Francis was confused with the switch. "Being a veteran, last week playing 44 minutes to this week playing two minutes today, it's tough," Francis said. "It's wild when you don't know what to do . . . That's the way he sees it. He's the ultimate coach and the president, so that's what his decision is." Thomas simply noted that he liked the way Collins was playing.

Right after the Knicks failed to trade Steve Francis last week, he talked about not playing the rest of the season. An MRI yesterday revealed that he has tendinitis in his knee, but he's expected to practice today and return to game action soon after, according to the New York Daily News. If he puts out any effort, he could actually have some value down the stretch.

"I don't want to say something that isn't there, but I'm not sure. I'm not (ruling that out). I've just got to be smart. I can't really make a decision in one day." The Knicks failed to trade him before the deadline, so they may look to buy him out just to move on.

The agent for Steve Francis rejected a New York Post report that his client may be seeking a buyout or that a sore knee could force the guard to retire, calling the notions "absurd," according to the New York Daily News. "That's not even remotely in the equation," said agent Jeff Fried. "This is all about him rehabbing and getting back to helping his team." On the other hand, Francis was granted permission to go to Houston to receive treatment on his sore knee, which is unusual. It's pretty obvious neither party wants Francis in New York.
