Andrei Kirilenko is ready to leave the $63 million left on his contract behind in order to play professionally in Russia or Europe. The Salt Lake Tribune translated a report from the Russian newspaper Sport Express in which Kirilenko was quoted in saying that he is prepared to go without the money and make less to play somewhere else. “The only thing I’m not prepared for is if I’m told, ‘Andrei, we want you to stay anyway,’” Kirilenko said. “I’m sure then the next season would be a repetition of the previous one, and what will the fans say then? How could you possibly rely on a player who wants to leave?”

The story was just a preview of the full interview, which is supposed to be posted on Friday.

In a blog post written on the Russian web site Sport Today, Jazz forward Andrei Kirilenko all but demanded a trade. “In a week, I need to join the Utah Jazz again, but quite frankly, I’m not really happy about that,” wrote Kirilenko, as translated by the Salt Lake Tribune. “The past season was bad for me and I was really disappointed. I’ve thought about it a lot and I came to a decision. I want to leave the Utah Jazz.” Kirilenko said he asked Utah senior vice president of basketball operation Kevin O’Connor a few weeks ago and asked to be traded, but had not heard back from anyone in a week, which he took as a sign of disrespect.

Andrei Kirilenko was one of the league’s biggest underachievers last season, and was known more for his complaining than his play. Team owner Larry Miller told the Salt Lake Tribune that one of his star players needs to grow up. “He hasn’t just flat laid down on us. But you used the words – and I’m being tough on him probably, if he doesn’t like it, I’m sorry, I’ll put my arm around him and tell him I still love him. But he needs to grow up… I just hope he will,” Miller told Tribune columnist Gordon Monson along with his radio co-host on 1280 The Zone on Thursday.

Andrei Kirilenko is "putting himself on thin ice," Jazz owner Larry Miller said Thursday, by allowing his production to ebb while complaining about not being involved in the team's offense, the Salt Lake Tribune reports. "The best advice, I suppose, for him is to play the game the way he knows how to play it," Miller said during a radio interview. "To me, Andrei could make the choice to play well, and I don't think he's done it the past eight to 10 games." Miller said he was surprised by comments Kirilenko made following a meeting Tuesday with the Jazz's coaching staff, all but admitting he was having difficulty staying interested in the team's games when he wasn't getting to shoot. "Some of the games, I don't feel like I'm on the floor," Kirilenko said. "I just go back and forth, back and forth, back and forth and I go to sleep." It will be interesting to see what kind of performance Kirilenko has Friday at Toronto.
