Rockets guard Rafer Alston told Houston television station KRIV that he is innocent of misdemeanor assault and public intoxication charges that were filed against him early Sunday morning. The station’s website reported that Alston was accused of grabbing a parking attendant’s arm, shaking him and spitting on him after Alston’s vehicle was towed from a lot where he was allegedly parked illegally and did not pay. "We got into a shouting match. My car was towed and I was basically asking the parking attendant where he had my car towed to," Alston told MyFoxHouston.com. "There were no hits, nothing transpired. The guy runs off and yells down the street, like, he needed an officer over here. Before you know it, the officer puts me in cuffs and takes me downtown. I asked the guy what was I being charged with and he said public intoxication and assaulting someone, and I said, 'I am neither of those.’”

Rafer Alston made just 2-of-14 shots in Monday's win at Chicago. Nonetheless Jeff Van Gundy appears to be strongly in Alston's corner; the Rockets coach gave a passionate defense of his slumping point guard before the game. "Rafer's our point guard," Van Gundy told the AP. "He's gonna be our point guard. If anybody has a problem with that, wants to see a change, it ain't gonna happen. Everybody can stop all the questions about who's next. There ain't no next right now."
