The Denver Nuggets jumped the Golden State Warriors in the race for the final playoff spot on Saturday, and one can attribute that upward spike in large part to the play of Kenyon Martin. The former first overall pick exploded for 30 points and 11 rebounds on Saturday night. The garbage man, known more for his dunks and put backs, K-Mart hit from everywhere on the court.

Kenyon Martin continues to emerge in the late weeks of the season, showing flashes of the powerful forward Denver thought he would be when given the big dollars to come west. In the Nuggets 119-112 victory, Kenyon posted a team-leading 30 points, going 12-of-21 from the field and 6-of-8 from the free-throw line, adding 11 rebounds and two blocked shots. This was Martins best game of the season to date and one of eight games in which he has exceeded his seasonal average for points per game this month. Hes rejuvenated and seems ready to leap back to prominence as Denver fights to make the playoffs.

Kenyon Martin doesn't get the accolades of some of his teammates, but on Monday night he contributed a solid 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Nuggets as he made 7 of 8 shots from the field. When he was on the court the Nuggets scored 35 more points than the Grizzlies showing that he was effective on both ends of the court.

Despite the worries of concussion, Kenyon Martin showed nicely in Denver's win over Memphis (108-86). Martin was the top scorer with 23 points, adding seven rebounds and three assists. It's just two games, but Martin is showing life, scoring 16 two days ago. It pails to what he used to be (much less what was expected of his career), and it may be the controversy of the alleged traffic scandal in Denver that is motivating him, but Martin is looking better than he has in a long time.

Kenyon Martin scored 17 points and added nine boards and four steals in the Nuggets loss on Wednesday night. With a scoring average of just barely better than 11 on the season, Martin has been on quite a roll of late with double digit points in six of the last seven games (15.3 points per game) as he continues to shoot at over a 50% clip.

Kenyon Martin missed his third straight game Saturday due to a staph infection in his buttocks. "It's a skin-type infection, and you just have to deal with antibiotics and cleaning it out," Nuggets athletic trainer Jim Gillen said, according to the Denver Post. "He's almost healed up from the actual infection. It's just now getting to where the wound was." There's a chance he'll be able to play on Monday, but that will depend on how well he continues to heal over the next 48 hours or so.
